Radon protection

Protan RadonSafe is a strong, gas-tight radon membrane that prevents radon gas from seeping into the building.

Gas tight and strong

Protan RadonSafe is a radon membrane made from polyesterreinforced thermoplastic polyolefin that protects buildings against radon gas from the ground. The membrane is joined by means of hot-air welded overlaps, ensuring a gas tight seal. It can be installed all year round, in any weather.

Rapid installation

We can prefabricate the entire membrane to fit the building's footprint on request in order to make installation as fast as possible. The membrane comes with prefabricated details and accessories that make it easy to seal complex structures properly during installation.

Protan Radonsafe

  • 100 % gas tight
  • good durability and reliable installation
  • strong, homogeneous joints
  • can be installed in any weather
  • hot-air welded

Protan Radon Safe can be installed for radon protection for all user groups A, B and C.

Solution A: The membrane is installed in the foundation pit on a levelled base
Solution B: The membrane is installed on a levelled base of insulation
Solution C: The membrane is installed on a levelled concrete slab or similar

A radon sump acts like a drain, removing water during the construction period and any radon extracted during the life of the building.

Sinister noble gas

Radon (Rn 222) is a radioactive, invisible, odourless noble gas that it is emitted continuously by uranium. Uranium occurs naturally in many rock types, including alum shale, granite and granitic gneisses. Uranium is radioactive and decays very slowly, having a half-life of four billion years. Over a long period, uranium decays into radon, among other things. Radon further decays into its residual products of bismuth, polonium and lead, with a half-life of 3.8 days. It is the transition from radon to its residual products that is harmful, and high concentrations of radon gas are dangerous for humans.

The radon gas takes the path of least resistance, so it is important for radon protection to be installed by skilled and experienced tradesmen.

Protan Prefabricated Accessories for Radon Safe

Radon is a gas that chooses the path of least resistance. It is therefore extremely important that penetrations and terminations are 100% sealed.
