The construction industry is one of the largest contributors to waste globally, but Protan is taking bold steps to change that. With the launch of PROcycle, Protan is revolutionizing how roofing materials are managed, ensuring waste is recycled and reused instead of ending up in landfills or incinerators.
A Sustainable Vision: Futureproofing Waterproofing
From August 2024, Protan is offering all Scandinavian customers a groundbreaking service: free collection of SE cut-offs and surplus materials from construction sites. Furthermore, Protan guarantees to reclaim all roofing membranes produced after August 2024 at the end of their lifecycle.
With PROcycle, we collect cut-offs and surplus materials from construction sites or customer locations at no cost. These materials are transported to our factory in Lier, where they are shredded, cleaned, and reintroduced into the production of new roofing membranes. This solution has already been successfully tested with key partners, and now we’re rolling it out to all our customers. It’s an important step towards delivering on our vision of ‘Futureproofing Waterproofing’.
Making a Measurable Impact
Protan produces 18–20 million square meters of roofing membranes annually. Through PROcycle, the company expects to collect 15,000 square meters of cut-offs and surplus materials in Scandinavia every year.
This initiative will significantly reduce Protan’s carbon footprint, promote circularity in the construction industry, and contribute to the global effort to combat climate change.
