Quality in Every Detail

At Protan, quality is a cornerstone of everything we do. Our laboratory plays a crucial role in ensuring that our products meet the highest quality standards.

The primary function of the laboratory is to ensure the quality of the goods delivered to our customers, in close collaboration with production and product owners. We qualify raw materials and formulations for the various products we produce, as well as control the quality of the finished product. Expertise in chemistry and materials technology is therefore essential.

We also ensure that all chemicals used in our production are handled correctly with regard to health, environment, and safety. Our products must not contain any prioritized environmental toxins or other substances considered hazardous to health and the environment according to the REACH/ECHA chemical list.

– Quality is part of our identity

Hege Gunnerud is a Principal Engineer and Lab Manager R&D, and recently celebrated 30 years at Protan. She emphasizes the importance of our certifications:

Our certifications reflect our dedication to continuous improvement, ensuring that we consistently deliver reliable, high-quality, and sustainable solutions to our customers. Whether it's qualifying raw materials, optimizing production processes, or delivering tested and documented products and systems, everything is geared toward verifying their suitability for use, Hege says.

– Quality is ingrained in everything we do at Protan. It's not just a process; it's part of our identity, from the development stage to the final product.

European and UK Regulations: CE and UKCA Marking

Construction Products Regulation (CPR)

The CPR governs the marketing of construction products within the EU and the European Economic Area (EEA). Its primary goal is to ensure that products meet strict safety, health, and environmental performance standards. Under the CPR, manufacturers must provide a Declaration of Performance (DoP), detailing a product’s key characteristics such as fire safety, structural integrity, and thermal performance. Products covered by the CPR must also carry the CE marking, indicating compliance with EU legislation and performance standards. This regulation is crucial for maintaining transparency and consistency across the EU construction market.

UKCA Marking

Following Brexit, the UKCA (UK Conformity Assessed) marking replaced the CE marking for goods sold in Great Britain. The UKCA marking signifies that a product complies with the relevant UK regulations, ensuring its safety, reliability, and suitability for use in construction projects across England, Scotland, and Wales.
