Adhered System
The Protan Adhered system is ideal for concrete structural roof decks and buildings with high humidity, but wind loads must be taken into account when specifying it.
A Protan-approved vapour control layer is installed over the structural roof deck, followed by Protan-approved tissuefaced insulation and Protan EX-A PVC single-ply membrane adhered with Protan ProBond Polyurethane Adhesive. For fully-adhered roof systems, the vapour control layer must be bituminous, to which the insulation is adhered with Protan Insulation Adhesive.
Otherwise, a polyethylene vapour control layer can be installed and the insulation mechanically fixed by fasteners and telescopic tube washers. Roofs subjected to greater wind loads require additional mechanical restraint.
Fully adhered solutions can be appropriate where perforation of the vapour control layer is undesirable or the substrate makes mechanical fastening difficult or impossible.
The Protan Adhered System can be used on both hot and cold roof structures, new build and renovation projects. In some countries adhesion is a common roofing method, but this solution cannot be installed during cold or wet weather.
This type of solution can be appropriate on buildings with high humidity, such as swimming pools, and on roofs with, for example, a wood wool deck, where mechanical fastening is difficult.
For fully adhered roofing systems, Protan has developed the Protan EX-A membrane with polyester fleece on the reverse.
