PROTAN DOUBLE BARRIER SYSTEM

The Protan Vacuum System is reparable and it’s the most secure and complete system in the market. It offers the possibility of carrying out puncture tests during the construction phases of the tunnel project. With this system it becomes easier to find any defects on the waterproofing membrane, before the secondary line takes place, avoiding any unplanned injection works.

The double layer of waterproofing membranes, knowing as a double ply will be delivered with compartmentalized sections, which is sealed forming a pocket with approx. 100m2. The second membrane which will cover the system is embossed to ensure the vacuum capability of this once the system is installed.

Each compartment has between 3 to 5 points of injection, which is testable by using a pump to extract de air from the pocket during construction phase. Any defects can be easily found and repaired before the installation of the protection layer and final secondary lining. The entire system is testable and injection pipes can be left in place, to enable further tests as work progresses.

Protan recommends a double barrier system for hydrostatic pressure. Use InfraPlan P20 or P30 PVC-P membrane as the first layer and PROTAN InfraPlan PT20 / ST (PVC-P) as the second layer to achieve vacuum system. Depending on ground conditions choose a PROTAN Geo (drainage/protection layer) from 700g to 1200g. Finish with PROTAN Protect 20 before applying the secondary lining.
